The two-part inaugural episode of Stargate Universe (SGU) was a very good opener for what I hope will be another long running Stargate series. While I found the opening pace a bit too forced (but necessary to get things moving along), the episode wasted no time before beginning the action. There are also a lot of very good computer generated graphics that are to the standards set in the original Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis (another series canceled too soon).
The main characters are a mixed assortment of soldiers and civilians (including scientists, IOA officials, politicians, etc) that no one would have selected to work together for a long duration mission, unfortunately for them (fortunately for us) they are thrown together through events that take place in the first episode. The main characters, a scientist with dubious motives for his actions, a computer nerd, a young Lieutenant, and a senator's daughter, are all very strong and there is a lot potential for great drama. I'm not sure if the senator's daughter is going to be a love interest for the Lieutenant or the nerd, but it might be an interesting love triangle.
This show has a lot of potential and I look forward to the rest of the season!
Highly Recommended!
